Soaking Rain Moves Into the Finger Lakes Through Tonight

The Finger Lakes Daily News reports on a moisture-rich storm system bringing widespread moderate rain to the region on Saturday, May 23, 2026.

If you’re stepping out this morning, bring a rain jacket — and plan to keep it handy all day. A slow-moving low pressure system tracking northeast out of the Ohio Valley is funneling an unusually deep plume of moisture into western and central New York, and the Finger Lakes are squarely in its path.

Light drizzle is already falling across most of the region as of 6 AM, with temperatures sitting in the low-to-mid 50s from Bath and Corning north to Watkins Glen and Penn Yan. Skies are heavy and southeast winds are holding steady between 6 and 11 mph. That drizzle will transition to steady, moderate rain through mid-morning as the main precipitation shield pushes northward. Rainfall will be widespread — not a washout with thunderstorms, just persistent, soaking rain that will likely continue through this evening and into overnight hours.

Highs today will struggle to reach the upper 50s. Corning and Watkins Glen should top out near 58–59°, while Penn Yan looks to stay closer to 54°. This is not a severe weather event, but puddles, reduced visibility, and slick roads will be concerns throughout the day and evening.

The good news is clearly ahead: high pressure builds Sunday, drying things out ahead of a significant warmup. Temperatures climb back above normal Monday through Wednesday, with highs potentially reaching into the 70s. A pleasant stretch is coming — just get through this soggy Saturday first.
