Storms and Heat Build Across the Finger Lakes Before Friday’s Cold Front

Finger Lakes weather forecast for June 12-14, 2026, showing storms and heat with rain Friday/Sunday, clear Saturday.
The Finger Lakes Daily News weather forecast for June 12-14, 2026, shows high temperatures and drizzle on Friday and Sunday, with a clear Saturday.

My radar is showing that cold front still working its way toward us from the west — and before it arrives, the Finger Lakes are waking up to a sticky, unsettled morning that’s going to get more active through midday. Geneva is at 68° with 91% humidity, Ithaca is already picking up a bit of light drizzle, and the heat index this afternoon will push into the lower to mid 90s across much of the region.

The morning starts mainly clear to partly cloudy from Canandaigua north and west, but clouds will thicken through late morning as the cold front approaches. Scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop between roughly 9 AM and early afternoon. The front will be crossing through a very warm, humid airmass — the kind that gives storms fuel. While no NWS alerts are in effect at this hour, the Buffalo office notes heat index values could flirt with Advisory criteria, particularly in Ithaca and Watkins Glen where afternoon highs may reach the mid-to-upper 80s. Stay hydrated and limit outdoor activity during peak heating between noon and 4 PM.

By evening, the front clears the region and drier, noticeably more comfortable air filters in from the northwest. Overnight lows settle around 67° with conditions improving steadily.

Saturday looks like a genuinely pleasant rebound — mainly clear skies, highs in the low 80s, and humidity dropping significantly as the front exits into New England. Enjoy the weekend. Sunday stays comfortable. The next weather story arrives Sunday night into Monday, when a new system swings in with moderate drizzle and highs falling to 79° by Sunday and down to 68° by Monday. Cooler and wetter conditions persist into the mid-week stretch, with highs in the upper 60s to low 70s through Wednesday.
