An orange semi-truck with significant front-end damage sits on the Thruway after a work zone crash that led to the driver being ticketed.

New York State Police say a Massachusetts woman was injured after a tractor-trailer entered an active work zone on the New York State Thruway in Oneida County on Thursday morning.

Troopers assigned to SP Schuyler responded to the crash shortly after 6 a.m. in the town of Marcy.

According to investigators, 63-year-old Katherine Swain, of Halifax, Massachusetts, was traveling eastbound in a 2019 Volvo tractor-trailer when she allegedly failed to follow road signs directing traffic to change lanes before entering an active work zone.

Police said the tractor-trailer struck a concrete barrier and continued through the work zone before colliding with a parked 2020 Toyota pickup truck occupied by 48-year-old Andrew Pryslopski of Little Falls.

Swain was taken by ambulance to Wynn Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Pryslopski was transported to the hospital by a third party and was also treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Investigators said speed appears to have been a contributing factor in the crash. Swain was issued traffic citations and is scheduled to appear in Marcy Town Court at a later date.

State Police are reminding motorists that construction season is underway and urging drivers to slow down, obey posted work zone speed limits, and remain alert while traveling through construction areas.
