Thruway Stop Leads to Arrest of Otsego County Sheriff’s Lieutenant

A lieutenant with the Otsego County Sheriff’s Office has been arrested on felony and misdemeanor charges following an investigation by the New York State Police.

State Police announced Friday that 35-year-old Thomas Fellrath of Hartwick was charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a class C felony; defrauding the government, a class E felony; and official misconduct, a class A misdemeanor.

According to investigators, Fellrath was found in possession of approximately 10 grams of cocaine during a traffic stop on the Thruway in Herkimer County.  Authorities said Fellrath was on duty at the time of the stop and was driving an unmarked Otsego County Sheriff’s Office vehicle outside of Otsego County.

The arrest followed an investigation conducted by the New York State Police Special Investigations Unit, the Troop C Community Stabilization Unit, and the Otsego County District Attorney’s Office.
