Death of Prison at CNY Prison Under Investigation

The death of an inmate at a central New York prison is under investigation.

The state Department of Corrections and Community Supervision reports the incident that resulted in a death at Marcy Correctional Facility in Oneida County involved the use of force by staff.

The unidentified inmate died last Tuesday at a hospital, one day after the alleged incident at the prison. The employees involved in the incident have been placed on administrative leave until the investigation is complete.

The Department of Corrections’ Office of Special Investigations is reviewing the incident and an investigation by New York State Police and the state attorney general’s office is also underway.
