Make the most of this warm start. Temperatures are already in the upper 60s across the Finger Lakes as Wednesday begins, but that changes quickly. A cold front dropping down from southern Ontario will push through the region later this morning, bringing scattered showers before noon. Once the front passes, cooler and drier air moves in fast.
This is the kind of front that means business. Highs will likely be reached early — near 72° in Canandaigua, 75° in Corning, and 77° in Watkins Glen — before temperatures begin falling through the afternoon. By late afternoon, expect readings in the upper 50s to low 60s across most of the region. Pack a jacket if you’re heading out for lunch and planning to stay past 3 PM.
If you’re heading to the Lake Ontario shoreline today, note that a Beach Hazards Statement from NWS Buffalo is in effect through midnight tonight for northern Cayuga, Oswego, and Jefferson counties. Dangerous wave action and strong currents are the concern — stay off the beaches up that way.
Tonight turns noticeably cool, with lows dropping into the low-to-mid 50s across the valleys and near 52° in Canandaigua. Thursday and Friday look dry and quite chilly for late May, with highs only in the 60s and overnight lows dipping into the 40s.
Looking further ahead, an unsettled pattern returns for the Memorial Day weekend, so temper outdoor plans accordingly. More details on timing and rainfall amounts as the holiday approaches.
