The Seneca County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Waterloo man following a single-vehicle crash in the Town of Fayette.

On Monday, Seneca County Sheriff Tim Thompson reports that at around 7:09 p.m., deputies arrested 31-year-old James Hennigan. Hennigan was charged with felony Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation in the Third Degree, Obstructing Governmental Administration, Resisting Arrest, multiple counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Third Degree, Criminally Using Drug Paraphernalia in the Second Degree, and several New York State Vehicle and Traffic violations.

The arrest stemmed from a complaint regarding a traffic accident. Following an investigation, deputies determined that Hennigan allegedly had been operating a 2018 GMC Acadia westbound on West River Road when the vehicle left the right lane of travel. The vehicle crossed into the oncoming eastbound lane and continued into a ditch on the south side of the road before striking a road culvert at the intersection of West River Road and Knight Road, causing significant front-end damage.

Hennigan allegedly fled the scene of the crash but was apprehended by deputies shortly thereafter. Deputies accused Hennigan of being in possession of several controlled substances at the time of his arrest.

Hennigan was transported to the Seneca County Correctional Facility to await Centralized Arraignment Part court.

The charges are accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty. Police reports are automatically removed from this site after 90 days.
