An 18-year-old woman was allegedly raped after Rochester Police said she mistook a city crossing guard for her driving instructor during what she believed was a scheduled lesson in Rochester.

News10NBC reports 58-year-old Wayne Plummer was arrested Monday and charged with first-degree rape, sexual abuse, and unlawful imprisonment.

Police said the victim traveled by bus to what she believed was a driving school appointment near State Street and Lyell Avenue. Investigators said she got into Plummer’s vehicle believing he was her instructor, but police later determined Plummer was not affiliated with the driving school.

According to investigators, Plummer drove the victim to his apartment on Hudson Avenue, where police said he sexually assaulted her.

Officers said the victim contacted a family member through text messages, prompting police to respond to the apartment and arrest Plummer at the scene. The victim was taken to a hospital for treatment.

Police said Plummer works for the City of Rochester as a crossing guard, and officials have already started the process of terminating his employment.

Plummer was taken to the Monroe County Jail and was being held on $5,000 bail. He is due back in court Friday.

The Rochester City School District issued a statement clarifying that Plummer is not employed by the district.
