Governor Kathy Hochul announced funding for 25 projects across three Central New York communities through the state’s Downtown Revitalization Initiative and NY Forward programs.
The awards include nearly $10 million for projects in the Village of Pulaski through the Downtown Revitalization Initiative, along with $4.5 million each for projects in the Villages of Chittenango and Marathon through the NY Forward program.
According to the state, the projects are intended to support downtown revitalization efforts, expand housing opportunities, improve public spaces and encourage economic development.
Pulaski received funding for 11 projects totaling $9.7 million. Planned projects include upgrades to Dunbar Park, redevelopment of mixed-use buildings with apartments and retail space, improvements to public areas and signage, construction of senior housing units and renovations to community facilities.
In Chittenango, eight projects totaling $4.5 million were approved. Those include expansions at Dr. West Park, improvements to the All Things Oz Museum, construction of a recreation center, creation of new upper-story apartments and downtown public realm improvements.
Marathon received funding for six projects totaling $4.5 million. Planned work includes renovations to the Peck Memorial Library, improvements to recreation facilities, creation of new rental housing, development of a coffee shop and bakery, and support for commercial property improvements.
State officials said the funding is tied to New York’s Pro-Housing Communities Program, which provides access to certain state funding opportunities for municipalities working to increase housing availability.
Local leaders in all three communities said the funding will support long-term economic growth, downtown improvements and housing development.
