Analysts say the latest spike comes as oil prices continue fluctuating amid ongoing tensions in the Middle East. Gas prices are now at their highest levels in four years, dating back to 2022.
As of Monday morning, oil prices were trading between $97 and $104 per barrel, compared to a range of $103 to $109 one week earlier.
According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration, gasoline demand, production, and domestic supply all declined slightly last week, contributing to continued volatility in fuel prices.
Diesel prices also remain elevated. The national average for diesel fuel is currently $5.64 per gallon, unchanged from last week but significantly higher than the $3.53 average reported one year ago.
In New York, diesel prices average $5.93 per gallon, down one cent from last week but up from $3.89 at this time last year.
