A Lima man faces a larceny charge following a shoplifting incident Saturday evening at the Walmart in the Town of Hopewell.

On Saturday, at approximately 8:20 p.m., Ontario County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the Walmart on Recreation Drive for a reported theft. Walmart asset protection staff reported that $360.11 worth of merchandise had been stolen.

Following a police investigation, the merchandise was recovered, and 19-year-old Karl Smith was placed under arrest. Smith was charged with Petit Larceny.

Smith was issued an appearance ticket and is scheduled to answer the charge in Hopewell Town Court at a later date.

The charges are accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty. Police reports are automatically removed from this site after 90 days.
