An inmate at the Steuben County Jail faces a felony charge after allegedly damaging county property, according to Steuben County Sheriff Jim Allard.

On Wednesday, Steuben County Sheriff’s deputies arrested Craig Brown, 47, of Sly Avenue Extension, Corning. His arrest followed a report that an inmate had damaged his jail-issued electronic tablet. Investigators allege that Brown intentionally damaged property valued at more than $250.

Brown was charged with third-degree criminal mischief, a class E felony. Following his arrest, he was arraigned in the Centralized Arraignment Court and returned to the custody of the Steuben County Jail.

The charges are accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty. Police reports are automatically removed from this site after 90 days.
