Sheri King, a Cohocton woman, has been charged with 34 counts of animal neglect.

Steuben County Sheriff Jim Allard reports that investigators and deputies arrested Sheri King, 54, of Cohocton, following a report of animal neglect.

The arrest follows the execution of a search warrant at King’s residence on April 24, which revealed more than 30 animals living in various states of malnourishment and maltreatment. It is alleged that King failed to properly house, feed, or water the animals over a period of time, resulting in multiple serious health issues for the dogs.

All of the animals were removed from the property by the Finger Lakes SPCA and the Hornell Humane Society to receive medical treatment.

King was charged with 34 counts of Overdriving, Torturing, and Injuring Animals, and Failure to Provide Proper Sustenance. She was issued an appearance ticket and released to answer the charges in Avoca Town Court at a later date.

Sheriff Allard expressed thanks to the Finger Lakes SPCA, the Hornell Humane Society, the Bath Veterinary Hospital, Avoca Town Code Enforcement, and Avoca Town Dog Control for their assistance with the investigation.

The charges are accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty. Police reports are automatically removed from this site after 90 days.
