On Thursday, Cayuga County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a Cato woman following a report of a suspicious person at a local retail store.
Shayla Lamora, 37, was charged with Obstructing Governmental Administration, False Impersonation, and Petit Larceny.
The arrest occurred after deputies responded to the Dollar General in Cato at approximately 6:20 PM. A store employee reported that a woman who had allegedly stolen from the business earlier in the day had returned and was potentially stealing again.
When the woman exited the store, deputies attempted to interview her. According to investigators, Lamora allegedly provided a false name and date of birth. Despite being warned that providing false information could lead to an arrest, she continued to use the alias. While deputies attempted to verify her identity using computer databases, Lamora allegedly fled the scene on foot.
She was apprehended after a brief pursuit and subsequently provided her correct identity. Lamora was transported to the Public Safety Building for processing and issued appearance tickets. She is scheduled to appear in the Village of Cato Court on May 18 at 6:00 PM.
