On Monday, Cayuga County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a Cato man following a domestic dispute investigation in the Town of Cato.

Daniel Root, 56, was taken into custody at approximately 7:53 PM and charged with Criminal Contempt in the Second Degree and Aggravated Family Offense.

The arrest follows an investigation into a domestic incident reported earlier that evening. At approximately 7:31 PM, deputies responded to a residence in the Town of Cato. While en route, the 911 center advised responding officers that the victim involved held a full stay-away order of protection against Root.

Investigators determined that Root was allegedly inside the residence with the victim but fled the scene before deputies arrived. He was located and taken into custody a short time later.

Root was transported to the Public Safety Building for processing and subsequently taken to the Cayuga County Jail. He was arraigned in Centralized Arraignment Part court, where bail was set at $25,000 cash or a $50,000 bond.

The charges are accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty. Police reports are automatically removed from this site after 90 days.
