A Bath man faces multiple felony and misdemeanor charges following a domestic dispute investigation by village police.
On the evening of May 23, Bath Police responded to a residence on East Washington Street after a family member requested a welfare check, noting they had not heard from the victim in days.
Upon arrival, officers spoke with the victim and family members. Investigators allege that Brandon Gattis, 30, of Bath, had been violently and physically assaulting the victim over a period of several weeks. A 7-month-old child was reportedly present during the incidents. Officers observed numerous injuries on the victim that had been inflicted by Gattis.
When apprehended, Gattis allegedly refused to cooperate with the investigation. After being informed he was under arrest, Gattis also attempted to escape from his handcuffs multiple times and stated he was trying to leave.
Gattis was arrested and charged with:
* Second-degree assault (a class D felony)
* Third-degree assault (a class A misdemeanor)
* Third-degree落 attempted escape (a class B misdemeanor)
* Criminal obstruction of breathing (a class A misdemeanor)
* Second-degree unlawful imprisonment (a class A misdemeanor)
* Endangering the welfare of a child (a class A misdemeanor)
Following processing, Gattis was transported to the Steuben County Jail, where he remains held on bail.
