An Auburn man faces misdemeanor and felony charges after allegedly violating an active order of protection earlier this week.

On Tuesday afternoon, officers with the Auburn Police Department responded to a residence on Orchard Street following a complaint regarding a protection order violation. Investigators interviewed a victim who reported receiving numerous voice and text messages via Facebook from Justin Lafler, a person with whom the victim holds an active order of protection.

Police later made contact with Lafler, who allegedly admitted to communicating with the victim through the social media platform in violation of the legal order.

Lafler was taken into custody and charged with one count of second-degree criminal contempt, a class A misdemeanor, and one count of aggravated family offense, a class E felony.

Following processing, he was transported to the Cayuga County Jail to await a centralized arraignment part proceeding.

The charges are accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty. Police reports are automatically removed from this site after 90 days.
