A State Police Investigator and a Monroe County Sheriff’s Deputy were injured Thursday while attempting to take an 18-year-old into custody as he was allegedly attempting to steal a car in the parking lot of the Greece Ridge Mall.

State Police, while assisting the Marshals Task Force and the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, approached Dhersie Dates as he allegedly tried to enter the car. As Dates attempted to escape from his parking spot, he struck the two officers before hitting another car. After a short foot pursuit, Dates was taken into custody.

The Investigator was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital for minor injuries and the Deputy was treated at Rochester General Hospital for minor injuries as well. The driver of the car that was struck was not injured.

No charges have been filed against Dates as he remains in custody while the investigation continues.
