The Weedsport Central School District has selected a new leader for its elementary school as longtime Principal Tim Cowin prepares to retire at the end of the school year.
Superintendent Gregory Stone announced that Nicole Kulikowski has been appointed as the next principal of Weedsport Elementary School following what district officials described as an extensive interview process.
In a message to the district community, Stone said Kulikowski’s instructional leadership experience and commitment to student success made her the top choice for the position.
“Nicole’s exceptional instructional leadership and vision for student success distinguished her as the ideal fit for our district,” Stone said. He also thanked the hiring committee, which included staff and community members, for their role in the selection process.
Kulikowski brings more than 15 years of classroom teaching experience in the Syracuse City School District. She later served as a Reading and Academic Intervention Services specialist in the North Syracuse Central School District before moving into district-level leadership.
For the past six years, Kulikowski has served as North Syracuse’s PK-12 Literacy and Response to Intervention Coordinator. In that role, she led the implementation of several districtwide literacy initiatives and oversaw a comprehensive revision of the district’s Multi-Tiered System of Supports plan.
District officials said her work helped integrate academic, behavioral, and social-emotional learning supports into a unified framework designed to meet the needs of all students.
Kulikowski is also recognized for her expertise in literacy instruction, serving as a trainer for Language Essentials for Teachers of Reading and Spelling, commonly known as LETRS. She has extensive experience with New York State’s Next Generation Learning Standards and curriculum development, according to the district.
She will succeed Cowin, who is retiring after serving as principal of Weedsport Elementary School.
