Cayuga County projects ranging from water infrastructure to emergency services could receive more than $12.3 million in proposed federal funding under new requests backed by New York’s U.S. senators.
Sens. Kirsten Gillibrand and Chuck Schumer are supporting funding requests for six local projects in the 2027 fiscal year, several of which also have backing from Reps. John Mannion and Claudia Tenney.
The largest requests include $2 million for an expansion at East Hill Medical Center and $951,000 for a new CT scanner at Auburn Community Hospital.
Gillibrand is also seeking $4.225 million for a new water district in Sennett that would extend service to 103 homes, along with $3 million for Cayuga County to build a new emergency operations center. Additional funding includes $1.2 million for a sewer project along Cayuga Lake led by the Cayuga County Water and Sewer Authority, and $1 million for a joint sewer project between the town of Brutus and the village of Jordan.
The proposals are part of congressionally directed spending requests that allow lawmakers to seek funding for local projects. The requests now head to House and Senate appropriations committees for review, and final approval is not guaranteed.
