The Finger Lakes Daily News reports that rain will clear the region by Sunday morning, making way for a drier and warmer afternoon.

A damp start to the long Memorial Day weekend across the Finger Lakes, but the good news is clearing is already underway from the west. A low-pressure system centered over eastern Michigan is slowly falling apart as it drifts northward, and a stream of drier air is moving in behind it. That’s the mechanism pushing today’s rain out of the picture.

If you’re in Corning or Bath, expect the light drizzle to taper off first — likely by mid-morning. Canandaigua, Penn Yan, and Watkins Glen will hold onto overcast skies and the chance of a few showers a bit longer, with conditions improving through midday into early afternoon. Temperatures this morning are sitting right around 50°F region-wide, with highs later today reaching the mid-to-upper 60s — near 68° in Canandaigua, 67° around Watkins Glen and Penn Yan, and 64° in Corning. That southerly downslope flow will help squeeze some breaks in the cloud cover across the lower valleys this afternoon.

Overnight lows will fall back to the upper 40s, right around 49-50°F.

One note on streams: the Seneca River near Seneca Falls is running at 2,350 cfs — elevated but not alarming given recent rainfall.

The week ahead looks considerably nicer. Monday through Wednesday brings above-normal temperatures and mostly dry conditions — a strong setup for the Memorial Day holiday. Enjoy it.
