The Yates County Legislature will hold a public hearing next week on a proposal to establish several new specialty rescue and emergency response teams within the county.
The hearing is scheduled for June 8 at 1 p.m. in the Legislative Chambers at the Yates County Office Building on Liberty Street in Penn Yan during the Legislature’s regularly scheduled meeting.
Under the proposed resolution, the Yates County Office of Emergency Services would be authorized to establish multiple specialized teams, including a Surface, Flood, and Swift Water Rescue Team, a Hazardous Materials Decontamination Team, a Fire Investigation Team, and Deputy Fire Coordinators.
County officials said the additional teams are needed to improve emergency response capabilities and enhance public safety for residents and visitors throughout Yates County.
According to the proposal, the teams would be established under New York State General Municipal Law and members would be covered under the state’s Volunteer Firefighters’ Benefit Law.
The public hearing will precede the regular monthly meeting of the Yates County Legislature.
