Two people were flown to Strong Memorial Hospital following a two-car crash on Friday morning on State Route 14A just north of the village of Penn Yan.
According to the Yates County Sheriff’s Office, emergency crews were called to the scene in the town of Benton around 11:38 a.m. for a reported crash involving entrapment.
Investigators said 63-year-old David Locascio, of Liberty, was driving north on Route 14A when his vehicle crossed into the southbound lane and collided with a vehicle driven by 83-year-old Diane Robinson, of Victor. After the initial collision, authorities said Locascio’s vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree. The Penn Yan Fire Department extricated Locascio from the vehicle.
Locascio suffered chest pain and facial and head injuries, while Robinson complained of chest pain. Both were flown by LifeNet helicopters to Strong Memorial Hospital with what authorities described as non-life-threatening injuries.
The Yates County Accident Investigation Unit responded to the scene, and the investigation remains ongoing. The roadway was shut down for approximately four hours while law enforcement conducted its initial investigation. Charges are pending the outcome of the investigation.
Multiple agencies assisted at the scene, including Penn Yan Fire Department, Penn Yan Police Department, Penn Yan Ambulance, Benton Fire Department, Yates County Ambulance, and LifeNet air medical crews.
