A Yates County economic development leader is taking on a new role at the state level.
Steve Griffin, CEO of the Finger Lakes Economic Development Center, has been named chair of the New York State Economic Development Council (NYSEDC) Board of Directors. The appointment was made during the organization’s annual meeting in Cooperstown on May 20.
Griffin of Penn Yan, will serve a two-year term leading the council, which represents economic development organizations and professionals from across New York State.
In a statement, Griffin said he was honored by the appointment and noted that it highlights the council’s commitment to representing communities of all sizes.
“As someone who is immensely proud to represent Yates County—one of the smallest counties in New York State—this appointment underscores the true core value of the NYSEDC,” Griffin said.
The council includes more than 1,000 members and partners statewide, including industrial development agencies, local development corporations, banks, utilities, chambers of commerce, colleges, and private-sector consultants.
NYSEDC Executive Director Ryan Silva praised Griffin’s work in the Finger Lakes region, calling him a “transformational leader” who has helped secure significant economic development wins for his community.
Looking ahead, Griffin said he hopes to build on the council’s recent momentum and continue advocating for policies that encourage economic growth across New York.
“Our goal is to continue to cement the NYSEDC’s place as a primary thought leader for positive economic development programs, initiatives, and policies that stimulate sustainable growth across every region of our state,” Griffin said.
Griffin has led the Finger Lakes Economic Development Center, which serves Yates County, and has been involved in a number of local business development and investment projects throughout the region.
