A Penn Yan woman has been charged after police say a three-year-old child wandered away from a residence and into a local business unattended.

Penn Yan Police said officers arrested 24-year-old Angel Conley, of Penn Yan, on a charge of endangering the welfare of a child.

According to police, officers were called to a local store after a young child entered the business looking for their parents. Investigators determined the child had been in Conley’s care when the child left the residence, crossed two streets, and entered the store alone. Police were able to locate the child’s father and safely return the child to him.

Conley was issued an appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear in Penn Yan Village Court at a later date.

The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
