As Yogi Berra famously said, “It’s déjà vu all over again.” That certainly was the case Saturday at St. John Fisher University in Rochester, where the Penn Yan Mustangs added yet another chapter to one of New York’s most dominant lacrosse dynasties. For the remarkable 29th time in program history, Penn Yan captured the Section V boys lacrosse championship, rolling past Pal-Mac 17-5 to once again stand atop the section.
The game was broadcast live on WFLR Radio and you can listen to it on the station’s On-Demand page by clicking here.
Both senior Tukker Fisher and junior Miles Ditzell scored five goals in the championship game for Penn Yan. Ditzell, who was named tournament MVP, also dished out two assists.
The stat of the game might come from sophomore standout Greyson Hathway. He won 20 of the 22 faceoffs in Saturday’s championship game. Hathway also scored two goals in the win.
Wilson Oliva was outstanding again in goal, making 10 saves and allowing four goals. He also was named to the all-tournament team for his performance in the post-season, along with Keegan Christensen. Tukker Fisher and Hathway also earned all-tournament recognition.
Now, the defending New York State Class D champions take the next step in trying to win back-to-back championship. Penn Yan will now play the Section VI Class D champion East Aurora on Thursday at 5 p.m. in the sub-regional round at Williamsville East. East Aurora defeated Eden-North Collins 25-9 on Saturday.
