A Campbell man has been charged following a New York State Police investigation into allegations of sexual abuse involving a child under the age of 11.
According to State Police in Painted Post, investigators received a report on May 6 alleging that 37-year-old David Brooker had inappropriate sexual contact with a juvenile victim.
Following an investigation, Brooker was arrested on May 7 and charged with first-degree sexual abuse, a class D felony, and endangering the welfare of a child, a class A misdemeanor. Police said the alleged incidents occurred in the Town of Campbell.
Brooker was processed at the State Police barracks in Painted Post and transported to the Steuben County Jail pending arraignment. Authorities said orders of protection were requested on behalf of the juvenile victim.
State Police were assisted in the investigation by Steuben County Child Protective Services and the Child Advocacy Center.
The investigation remains ongoing.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
