A Montour Falls man is facing felony charges following an attempted burglary investigation in Chemung County.

According to the Chemung County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded around 1:20 a.m. Sunday to the Dandy Mini Mart on State Route 352 in the Town of Big Flats after a business alarm was activated.

When deputies arrived, they discovered a large window at the business had been shattered. Investigators reviewed surveillance footage and identified a suspect.

A short time later, deputies located 39-year-old John Conner on State Route 352, less than a mile from the store, and took him into custody.

Following an investigation by the Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division, Conner was charged with attempted third-degree burglary, a Class E felony, and second-degree criminal mischief, a Class D felony.

Conner was arraigned in Big Flats Town Court and remanded to the Chemung County Jail pending a future court appearance.

The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
