Four Finger Lakes residents were recognized this week after graduating from the New York State Police Academy and beginning their careers as New York State troopers.
State Sen. Pam Helming met Thursday with members of the 218th Basic School graduating class and New York State Police Superintendent Steven G. James in Albany, where she presented Senate citations to four graduates from her district.
The honorees were Trooper Tomas Ippolito of Newark, Trooper Owen Shedden of Honeoye Falls, Trooper Dylan Southcott of Ontario and Trooper August Gordner of Shortsville.
The 218th Basic School graduated 175 new troopers following six months of training that included academic instruction, physical conditioning, tactical preparation and field training.
According to State Police, 18 members of the graduating class will be assigned to New York State Police Troop E, which is headquartered in Farmington and serves communities throughout the Finger Lakes and parts of Western New York.
The new troopers were scheduled to begin reporting to their assigned troops on May 30, where they will continue training under the supervision of senior field training officers.
Helming said the graduates demonstrated the discipline, integrity and resilience necessary to complete the academy’s rigorous training program and begin serving communities across New York.
