UPDATE: Stanley Teen Dies From Injuries Suffered in Gas Explosion

A 15-year-old boy who suffered severe burns in an accident last month in Ontario County has died from his injuries.

According to the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded on April 23 to a home on Little Church Road in Stanley for a report of a teenage male suffering significant burn injuries.

Investigators said the boy had poured gasoline onto an outdoor fire when the gasoline exploded, causing his clothing and body to catch fire. Authorities said he suffered partial-thickness burns over a majority of his body.

Mercy Flight Central transported the teen to the ICU Burn Unit at Strong Memorial Hospital, where he remained in critical condition following the incident.

The sheriff’s office said the victim succumbed to his injuries and died at the hospital on Friday.

Officials also said Kristen Wildrick suffered burns to her arm and foot while attempting to extinguish the flames. She was taken by ambulance to Strong Memorial Hospital for treatment.

The Stanley Fire Department, Hall Fire Department, and Stanley-Hall-Gorham Ambulance assisted at the scene.

Following an investigation, authorities determined the fire was accidental and not suspicious.
