A Lyons man was killed and another person was seriously injured after two motorcycles collided with an SUV in Cayuga County Sunday afternoon.
New York State Police say the crash happened around 4:15 p.m. on Route 31 at the intersection with Brutus Mentz Townline Road in the Town of Mentz.
Investigators say 33-year-old Amber Holmes, of Auburn, was driving a 2020 Nissan Pathfinder north on Centerport Road and stopped at the intersection before pulling into the path of two westbound motorcycles traveling on Route 31, which had the right of way.
Both motorcycles struck the passenger side of the SUV.
One of the motorcycle operators, 35-year-old Branden Paradise, of Lyons, was airlifted to Upstate University Hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
The second motorcyclist, 36-year-old Matthew Hockenbruckner, of Lyons, was also airlifted to Upstate University Hospital and remains hospitalized.
An 18-year-old passenger in the SUV, Raianna Lewis, was taken to Auburn Community Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Police said Holmes remained at the scene and has been cooperating with investigators. Troopers said there is no indication alcohol or drugs were factors in the crash.
The State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit and Bureau of Criminal Investigation assisted at the scene. The investigation remains ongoing.
