Tompkins Consolidated Area Transit will relocate the bus stop for its high-frequency Route 10 beginning Monday as officials continue adjusting service following the closure of the Seneca Street Garage in downtown Ithaca.
Starting Monday, Route 10, which serves the Cornell-to-Commons corridor, will move to the 200 block of Tioga Street in front of Ithaca Town Hall.
City officials said the relocation is intended to help reduce bus congestion that developed after routes were temporarily shifted because of the garage closure last month.
“All other routes displaced by the closure of the Seneca Street Garage will continue using the temporary stop on Seneca Street from the Tompkins Financial building to the corner of Cayuga Street,” the city said in a statement.
Matthew Rosenbloom-Jones said moving Route 10 will significantly ease congestion at the temporary Seneca Street stop, though it will not eliminate it entirely.
The City of Ithaca will designate the 200 block of Tioga Street for bus use only, with parking prohibited for other vehicles.
Officials noted Route 10 currently departs from Seneca Street 65 times each day. That number is expected to decrease to approximately 45 daily trips when TCAT’s summer service schedule begins May 24.
