E-Bike Rider Hospitalized After Ithaca Crash

An e-bike rider was injured Tuesday morning after crashing near South Aurora Street in Ithaca.

According to the Ithaca Police Department, officers, firefighters, and Bangs Ambulance responded around 10:30 a.m. to the parking lot at 222 South Aurora Street for a reported personal injury accident involving an e-bike.

A preliminary investigation determined the bicyclist was traveling northbound on South Aurora Street when the e-bike reportedly lost brake function.

Police said the rider was able to cross Prospect Street and travel onto the lawn in front of 222 South Aurora Street before striking a concrete knee wall and crashing into the parking lot on the opposite side of the wall.

Authorities said the bicyclist was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

The rider was transported to an undisclosed regional trauma center for treatment of injuries.
