Keuka Softball Picks Up First Win of the Season

The Keuka College Softball team earned their first victory of the season as a part of a doubleheader split at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford on Thursday.

The hosts won the opening game 9-3 over the Wolves, but Keuka College (1-9) rallied for a 7-6 victory in game two.

Pitt.-Bradford 9 vs. Keuka College 3 – Game 1

The Panthers took the lead with a pair of runs in the second inning and doubled it with two more in the third.

The Wolves cut into the lead in the fourth as Olivia Flynn (Williamson, N.Y. / Williamson) led off with a double. She moved to third on a single by Makenna DeMoney (Conklin, N.Y. / Susquehanna Valley) and scored on a single from Kaylin Ritenour (Madison, Pa. / Yough). DeMoney would later score on a groundout and Ritenour came in on a wild pitch to make it 4-3.

However, Pitt.-Bradford added two back in the fourth and tacked on three insurance runs in the sixth to defeat the Wolves 9-3.

Keuka College 7 at Pitt.-Bradford 6 – Game 2

Keuka College took the early lead in game two as Olivia Flynn and Hailey Jasinski (Buffalo, N.Y. / North Collins) had back-to-back doubles for the Wolves.

The Wolves added to their lead in the third. Emily Cutrona (Buffalo, N.Y. / West Seneca West) reached on an error to start the inning. Cutrona would come all the way around to score from first on a double by Olivia Flynn. Hailey Jasinski followed with a home run to center to extended Keuka’s lead to 4-0.

Makenna DeMoney had an RBI single for the Wolves in the fifth inning, but the Panthers would claw back. Pitt.-Bradford scored a run in the fifth and two in the sixth to make it 5-3.

Brooke Burd (Canisteo, N.Y. / Canisteo-Greenwood) had a pinch hit single to lead off the seventh of the Wolves. Olivia Flynn followed with another double. A groundout by Jasinski scored Cutrona, who pinch ran for Burd, to make it 6-3. Flynn came in a batter later on a passed ball as the Wolves took a 7-3 lead into the final inning.

The insurance runs were needed as Pitt.-Bradford scored three runs and loaded the bases against the Wolves. However, a groundout to third would end the game with Keuka College defeating Pitt.-Bradford 7-6.

  • The Wolves and Panthers have split their doubleheader in each of the past two seasons. Pitt.-Bradford leads the all-time series 9-3
  • Olivia Flynn and Makenna DeMoney each had a pair of hits in game one
  • Flynn added three more doubles, tying the program record, in game two
  • Hailey Jasinski had a single, double, and home run in game two against the Panthers. It was her second career home run, and the seven total bases set a new personal best
  • Jasinski also set a new career-high with four runs batted in
  • Abbie DeRock (Hunt, N.Y. / Letchworth) pitched a complete game for the Wolves with five strikeouts for her first career win
  • Brooke Burd and Giana Mruczek (Batavia, N.Y. / Batavia) recorded their first career hits on Thursday.

Up Next for Keuka College: Empire 8 play is up next for Keuka College. The Wolves will travel to SUNY Geneseo to face the Knights in a conference doubleheader. 2025 is Geneseo’s first season in the Empire 8 Conference. The two teams last met in 2017 splitting a doubleheader, the only win in the 20-game series for the Wolves.
