State Police have arrested a Monroe County man after he was alleged to have more than 820,000 files depicting children engaged in sexually explicit conduct.

The New York State Police have arrested Peter Tonery, of Hamlin, following a child exploitation investigation conducted with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. Troopers say the 74-year-old was charged with possession of a sexual performance by a child, a Class E felony. The charge stems from a 2023 search warrant executed at his Hamlin residence, where investigators recovered evidence from electronic devices.

According to State Police, more than 820,000 files were found depicting children engaged in sexually explicit conduct.

Tonery was charged on Monday and released with an appearance ticket. He is scheduled to appear in Hamlin Town Court on September 15.

State Police say the investigation is ongoing.
