Troopers Injured After Being Struck During Traffic Stop in Catskills; Driver Killed

Two New York State Police troopers were injured Monday evening after their patrol vehicle was struck from behind on Route 23 in the Town of Cairo.

The crash happened just before 5:30 p.m. while the troopers were conducting a traffic stop. Police say both troopers were standing outside the stopped vehicle when it was hit. They suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to local hospitals for evaluation. Both have since been treated and released.

The driver of the vehicle that struck the patrol car was identified as 69-year-old Sharon Torres of Cairo. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

State Police say the investigation is ongoing.
