The New York State Thruway Authority said it is alert of text message scam being presented as an attempt to collect tolls.

The Thruway Authority said E-ZPass or Tolls By Mail will never send a text or email requesting sensitive personal information such as credit card, birthday, Social Security number, or other personally identifiable information. A real text will come from 39769, begins with EZPNY, and features the official TBM/EZP websites (tollsbymailny.com or e-zpassny.com). Fake texts are sent from an international #, requests to reply with “Y” to receive the link, and contains an unofficial website.

If in doubt, call E-ZPass at 1-800-333-8655 or Tolls by Mail at 1-844-826-8400 – or email: [email protected] for assistance. Real communications will only refer customers to the following official websites: EZPassNY.com and TollsByMailNY.com. If you receive this fraudulent SMS and would like to file a complaint with the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center please visit, www.ic3.gov.
