State Senator Rachel May is calling for her colleagues in the state legislature to provide funding to replace lead pipes throughout the state.

Senator May said at a press conference that “lead poisoning can cause hyperactivity, mood swings, and violent behavior and it’s believed to be a significant factor in our rising youth crime rate. Our kids, their parents, their neighbors, their schools all deserve a chance at a lead free life.”

The last time New York provided new grants to replace lead pipes was 2019.
