A New York State Police sergeant was killed in a motorcycle crash Tuesday morning on the Taconic State Parkway in East Fishkill.

Troopers say the crash happened around 6:30 a.m. near mile marker 36.1 southbound. A preliminary investigation found that a 2025 Ducati motorcycle left the roadway after the operator lost control. The rider, 49-year-old Sergeant Nigel K. Barnett of Poughkeepsie, was ejected and struck a guardrail. He was pronounced dead at the scene despite life-saving efforts.

Barnett was a 19-year veteran of the State Police and most recently served as Station Commander at the Cortlandt barracks in Troop K.

The crash remains under investigation.
