The state budget is now three days overdue, prompting lawmakers to issue another budget extender to ensure state employees continue receiving their pay. This latest extender will last until Monday, allowing state operations to remain uninterrupted.

The extender, which totals over $2 billion, includes funding to support New York National Guard members who are stepping in to address staffing shortages at state prisons.

While the budget has yet to be finalized, some lawmakers are hopeful it will be completed before the legislative session’s two-week break.
