An 80-year-old Rochester man was killed Tuesday evening in a crash involving a deer in the Town of Pavilion.

Genesee County sheriff’s deputies say the incident happened at the intersection of South Lake Road and Junction Road. According to investigators, a 68-year-old Pavilion man struck a deer while driving, sending the animal airborne and through the windshield of a vehicle driven by Michael Vaccaro, who was traveling in the opposite direction.

Vaccaro’s vehicle then went off the road into a ditch. Deputies say he died at the scene from his injuries.

The Pavilion driver was not hurt. The crash remains under investigation.
