The remains of a 22-year-old Elmira man who went missing more than four years ago have been found. State Police have identified the human remains found near the banks of the Chemung River in Chemung in late September as Matthew Barber.

WENY television in Elmira reports Barber’s jawbone was found back in May of 2022 by a boater on the river banks of the Chemung.

Barber, who was disabled, was reported missing in October of 2020. It is still not known how Barber’s remains ended up in the river.
