One Dead, One Injured in Fireworks Accident on Somerset Lake

One man is dead and another injured after a fireworks explosion on Somerset Lake in the town of Hancock on the Fourth of July.

New York State Police say troopers from the Deposit barracks were dispatched around 9:40 p.m. Friday following reports of an accident involving fireworks.

According to a preliminary investigation, two men were on a pontoon boat setting off fireworks when several ignited at once, causing a deadly explosion. One man was pronounced dead at the scene. The other was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The incident remains under investigation.
