New York’s unemployment rate held steady at 4 percent in August, unchanged from July.

The Department of Labor says the state lost 13,300 private-sector jobs last month, but is still up by nearly 118,000 jobs compared to a year ago.

Officials also report the labor force shrank slightly in August, with participation dropping to 60.8 percent.
