Gas prices across New York are continuing their slow decline, following national trends as demand eases heading into the colder months. According to AAA Western and Central New York (AAA WCNY), the statewide average price for a gallon of regular gas is now $3.11, down two cents from last Monday and ten cents lower than this time last year, when the average was $3.21.

Here’s a look at current averages across several upstate metro areas:

  • Batavia – $3.12 (down 2 cents)
  • Buffalo – $3.16 (no change)
  • Elmira – $2.98 (down 1 cent)
  • Ithaca – $3.19 (down 2 cents)
  • Rochester – $3.16 (down 1 cent)
  • Rome – $3.13 (down 2 cents)
  • Syracuse – $3.06 (down 2 cents)
  • Watertown – $3.12 (down 3 cents)

AAA says gas prices have been relatively steady nationwide, fluctuating only a few cents in recent weeks. The national average remains just below $3 per gallon — still lower than a year ago. Analysts expect prices to continue easing as fewer drivers take road trips and gasoline demand remains flat at about 8.45 million barrels per day, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration.

Oil prices are currently trading between $61 and $65 per barrel, while domestic gasoline supply dipped slightly from 218.8 million to 216.7 million barrels. Gasoline production, meanwhile, has increased to around 9.6 million barrels per day.

Diesel prices remain stable, with the national average rising slightly to $3.66 per gallon, up four cents from last week. In New York, the average stands at $3.87, unchanged from the previous week.
