Governor Kathy Hochul called for abolishing the Electoral College while overseeing New York’s 28 electoral votes for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz.

Hochul argued the system undermines equal voting rights, advocating instead for a national popular vote to determine the presidency. New York’s electors officially backed Harris, who won the state by 12 points.

Any change would require a constitutional amendment to abolish the Electoral College.
