Almost $44 million in federal grants is coming to help support community organizations that work to prevent homelessness and protect at-risk veterans and their families across New York State. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand said the funding was allocated through the Department of Veterans Affairs’ Supportive Services for Veteran Families program, financing community organizations’ efforts to rehouse veterans and their families, identify more suitable housing options for them, and prevent the imminent loss of veterans’ homes.
“Our brave veterans have put their lives on the line to protect us, and it’s unacceptable that after years of service to their country, so many end up on the streets,” said Senator Gillibrand. “These grants will help community organizations across New York provide more housing and services to homeless and at-risk veterans. I’m proud to announce this funding and will continue to fight to reduce veteran homelessness in New York and across the country.”
