Governor Kathy Hochul on Tuesday announced flags on State buildings will be flown at half-staff in honor of Binghamton firefighter John R. Gaudet. Gaudet was fatally injured in the line of duty while responding to a fire on February 12.

“As a firefighter, a youth athletics coach, a husband, and a father, John Gaudet was a consummate public servant who devoted his life to the community he loved,” Governor Hochul said. “My heart goes out to his family and to all those mourning this tragic loss, and I pray that his legacy will endure through his extraordinary acts of service.”

A lifelong resident of Binghamton, Gaudet is survived by his wife, Felly, and their three children, Charles, Vanessa, and Michael.
