State Police are investigating a fatal officer-involved shooting in Saratoga Springs.

On Wednesday at approximately 4:00 p.m., Troopers were attempting to locate 48-year-old James Dellea, of Hillsdale, NY who had threatened self-harm. Troopers located Dellea in the parking lot of the Albany-Saratoga Speedway on State Route 9 in the Town of Malta. When Troopers attempted to interview Dellea, he failed to follow lawful commands to exit his vehicle and fled the scene. A low-speed vehicle pursuit was initiated. Dellea subsequently stopped his vehicle in the parking lot of Bethel Saratoga in the City of Saratoga Springs. According to State Police, Dellea again refused to exit his vehicle despite numerous commands to do so. Dellea brandished a firearm, at which time one of the Troopers fired his weapon, fatally striking him.
