Hunters can get a headstart on deer hunting this weekend.

Early antlerless deer season begins Saturday and runs through September 22 in the Fingerlakes.

Only antlerless deer or those with antlers less than three inches long may be harvested during this time.

The Department of Environmental Conservation is reminding those using firearms to hunt must wear a solid or patterned fluorescent orange or pink hat, vest, or jacket while afield. Hunters are no longer required to wear backtags while hunting.

Hunting hours are 30 minutes before sunrise to 30 minutes after sunset.
